You can tell a lot about a hotel room by its bathroom. It's one of the true giveaways of a luxury hotel as it will likely showcase pampering perks like large walk-in rainfall showers, deep soaking tubs, aromatherapy products, and a design that can easily upstage the rest of the room. In other words, indulgent high-end offerings that go far beyond good water pressure.

However, we rounded up some of the best hotel baths in rooms that start at $500 or much, much less. These bathrooms all have a little something special, whether it's an incredible view, memorable perks, or spa-like finishes. The Dreamcatcher

Many rooms and suites at the Dreamcatcher have an outdoor shower. The Dreamcatcher Puerto Rico

    Book the Dreamcatcher

    Category: Boutique

    Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico

    Typical starting/peak prices: $95/$275

Best for: Couples, families, solo travelers, yoga lovers

On-site amenities: Communal kitchens, yoga classes, beach, breakfast

Pros: This eco-friendly beach hotel gives laid-back travelers a central jumping off point for exploring San Juan's charms.

Cons: Each of the rooms are different and some do not have private bathrooms, so be sure you know what room you are booking.

This laid-back charmer in the chic Ocean Park neighborhood of San Juan has just nine brightly-colored rooms and three suites. Each has a unique, bohemian style of its own, including a variety of bathroom options (private indoor, private outdoor, en suite, or down the hall).

Book a suite or a room with an outdoor shower and enjoy a rinse from the privacy of your own deck. Eco-friendly amenities and plush towels make for a relaxing experience, nice for capping a day spent at the nearby Ocean Park beach or tromping through the cobblestone-lined streets of Old San Juan.

Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station

While this bathroom isn't fancy, it's located inside a refurbished train car. Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station

Book Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station

    Category: Budget

    Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

    Typical starting/peak prices: $106/$341

Best for: Families, train lovers, business travelers, solo travelers

On-site amenities: Pool, fitness center, restaurant, business center, trains

Pros: This is a fun opportunity to sleep on a train without the commitment of train travel.

Cons: This is an active train station, so be prepared to hear some noise.

Sleep inside a train in Indianapolis without going anywhere when you book the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located in the historic train shed of Indianapolis' Union Station.

Guests sleep in a refurbished 1920s Pullman train car, and while trains aren't exactly known for their large bathrooms, the ones here were redone to make modern travelers comfortable, including full-sized vanities, mirrors, toilets, and even a hotel standard bathtub. They are petite, but the novelty of being able to bathe inside a train makes up for a lot.

The train cars include everything you'll needs for a restful night, including earplugs to block out the noise of the still-working train station. The hotel also has white fiberglass travelers dressed in period clothing positioned around the station to add to the historic charm. It's a fun experience for a train lover or history buff.

    McCloud Mercantile Hotel

The whirlpool tub overlooks this spacious suite. McCloud Mercantile Hotel

    Book McCloud Mercantile Hotel

    Category: Boutique

    Location: McCloud, California

    Typical starting/peak prices: $169/$299

    Best for: Couples, solo travelers

    On-site amenities: Restaurant, complimentary breakfast

Pros: This is a friendly, family-run hotel with gracious hosts. Enjoy easy access to the area's natural wonders, including the ski park.

Cons: The hotel is comprised of a collection of rooms over a few shops and some guests may miss a more traditional hotel.

While it may not be on most people's radars, McCloud is worth a visit. The tiny town at the base of Northern California's Mt. Shasta offers easy access to spring-fed rivers, lakes, and hot springs, as well as rugged hiking trails, skiing, and California's oldest nine hole golf course.

The historic Mercantile Hotel has many different rooms and suites, but the Shasta Wintu suite, named for the local native population, has a bathroom worth noting. Tiled with black river rocks with natural wood accents, including an old-growth vanity with a granite carved sink, the bathroom was designed to wow. The main attraction is the sunken whirlpool tub where the water cascades out of the rock work illuminated by a chandelier.

For $30, the hotel will add an aromatherapy bath package that includes bath salts, bath foam, French milled soap, and shea butter lotion for all-out pampering.

    The Driskill Hotel

    TripAdvisor

    Book The Driskill Hotel

    Category: Mid-Range

    Location: Austin, Texas

    Typical starting/peak prices: $175/$750

Best for: Couples, families, solo travelers, business travelers

On-site amenities: Restaurant, bar, fitness center

Pros: This is a gorgeous historic hotel right in the heart of Austin.

Cons: The hotel is over 100 years old and while it has been updated, some guests may feel like it's dated and the sound-proofing isn't quite up to modern standards.

For an Instagram-worthy tub that also feels somewhat spiritual, Austin's Driskill Hotel has suites with jetted tubs set under gorgeous stained glass windows.

If you really want to splurge, upgrade to the Cattle Baron suite to enjoy the Jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom, or the Heritage Suite, which has a tub built for two that was reportedly Lyndon B. Johnson's favorite spot. You may also wash the Texas heat away with a rain shower in the separate bathroom.

This historic hotel is full of Texas charm and cowboy cool with plenty of "only in Texas" decor like longhorns, cowhides, and lone star memorabilia.

    The Roxbury Motel

The Crown of the Pendragons suite has a secret shower with full-body sprays and a palatial 85-gallon circular bathtub. Roxbury Motel at Stratton Falls

    Book the Roxbury Motel

    Category: Boutique

    Location: Roxbury, New York

    Typical starting/peak prices: $188/ $404

    Best for: Couples, families

    On-site amenities: Spa

Pros: This hotel's rooms feature over-the-top themes that are whimsical and highly memorable. Every stay is a little different but equally fun.

Cons: While a light breakfast is provided, there is no restaurant at the hotel, so guests will need to leave the property for lunch and dinner.

This quirky Catskills motel has been enchanting visitors for decades with its surreal, inventive-themed rooms. The owners — former theater folks — put their imaginations to work turning staid hotel rooms into immersive experiences taking guests to the Wild West, a Jetsons-inspired future, a Cleopatra wonderland, a Cinderella fairy tale, and so much more.

While some rooms and suites have bathrooms that are traditional, choose a suite or cottage for the chance to soak in a glowing red spaceship-like tub outfitted with internal LED lights for a little chromatherapy surrounded by shimmering cobalt blue metallic curtains. Or, luxuriate in a 10-gallon Japanese soaking tub inside a spherical bathroom decorated in glittery tile and shimmering wallpaper inspired by "I Dream of Jeannie." You may also book a room where you can step back in time to a golden Pharoah's tomb with a fish tank built into the shower.

    NoMad Las Vegas

    NoMad Las Vegas

    Book NoMad Las Vegas

    Category: Luxury

    Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

    Typical starting/peak prices: $189/$599

    Best for: Couples, groups

On-site amenities: Pool, restaurants, bar, fitness room, casino in adjacent hotel

Pros: This smoke-free hotel within a hotel is an grown-up retreat right in the heart of Sin City.

Cons: No coffee makers in the rooms mean a trip through the hotel and casino to get coffee in the morning.

While no one comes to Vegas for the bathrooms, the NoMad's are worth a visit.

This hotel-within-a-hotel at the MGM Park serves as an oasis of calm in the neon-lit city. In contrast to the Strip's buzzy glow, NoMad is all dark wood and dim lights with a quiet bar to grab a drink and engage in some elegant gambling.

The rooms follow a similar theme with dark wood furniture offset by big windows and elegant fixtures. The Atelier Suites (and higher categories) have marble-lined walk-in showers, some with seated vanities. The real star though is a freestanding pedestal soaking tub, nearly big enough for two, situated right in the suite's bedroom. Luxuriate in the tub while watching TV or chat with your partner while sudsing up in Côté Bastide amenities.

    Sparrows Lodge

Bathe in a steel trough at Sparrow Palm Springs. Tripadvisor

    Book Sparrows Lodge

    Category: Boutique

    Location: Palm Springs, California

    Typical starting/peak prices: $197/$1,876

    Best for: Couples, groups

On-site amenities: Pool, on-site massages, restaurant, communal spots

Pros: This Palm Springs oasis combines rustic luxury with summer camp vibes and a touch of Old Hollywood glamour.

Cons: The communal atmosphere, lack of TVs, and adults-only rule means this hotel might not be for everyone.

Enjoy Palm Springs' chilled-out vibes at this sophisticated retreat that makes the most of the desert's languid days and nights.

This former home of a Hollywood star was reimagined as a group of semi-rustic cabins with exposed wood beams, stone accent walls, and barn-chic furniture. Guests have access to a pool and bikes for getting around town, but there are no televisions or phones in the guestrooms.

Ask for a poolside room with a tub and you'll find a bathroom outfitted with a horse-trough-like enormous steel tub. Or, opt for the concrete walk-in shower stall with a rain shower head and Argan bath products, flanked by stone masonry countertops that stay cool even in the desert heat.

    Under Canvas Grand Canyon

Experience the feeling of showering inside a canvas tent. Under Canvas Grand Canyon

    Book Under Canvas Grand Canyon

    Category: Adventure

    Location: Valle, Arizona

    Typical starting/peak prices: $208/$358

Best for: Families, couples, outdoor adventurers

On-site amenities: On-site dining, complimentary camp activities, Zen garden

Pros: This camping experience lets visitors get up close and personal with the natural wonders of the Grand Canyon without lugging in a tent.

Cons: While the hotel does its best to make tents feel luxurious, they are still tents in the desert with the occasional dirt, pest, or other annoyance, and dining options are very limited.

Normally camping brings up memories of trudging through the woods with a roll of toilet paper. Now, glamping can make the mundane task of using the bathroom feel downright glamorous.

Under Canvas Grand Canyon is on 160-acres of secluded piñon and juniper forest not too far from the South Rim entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. If you book a tent with a private bathroom, you'll have a rustic, minimalist chic space that includes a flushing toilet, a darling sink, and shower. The experience of showering inside your tent with an incredible view of Arizona's brilliantly-hued red rocks is beyond memorable.

    The Standard High Line

Soak in the views and more at the Standard High Line. Tripadvisor

    Book The Standard High Line

    Category: Mid-Range

    Location: New York, New York

    Typical starting/peak prices: $217/$500

Best for: Couples, solo travelers, groups

On-site amenities: Bar, restaurant, nightclub, fitness club

Pros: This hotel is surrounded by buzzy entertainment and food options within the Meatpacking District, West Village, and Chelsea neighborhoods.

Cons: The rooms are small and don't offer much privacy.

In New York City, The Standard High Line matches the city in glitz and glamour among a hip, young clientele. The hotel even has its own nightclub, chic eatery, and minimalist, modern rooms.

Book a Corner King room to bathe in the lights of the city while taking a soak as well. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around the space, including into the bathroom where an enormous standalone bath lets you take in the dramatic scenery right from the tub. Just remember that at night, those large windows work both ways, and folks outside may get something a view themselves.

Add the Bubbles package and get a bottle of Moët to sip while you soak for that real bright lights, big city experience.

    Lotus Garden Cottages

    TripAdvisor

    Book Lotus Garden Cottages

    Category: Boutique

    Location: Volcano, Hawaii

    Typical starting/peak prices: $265/$1,000

    Best for: Couples

On-site amenities: Free breakfast, hot tub, kitchenettes

Pros: This idyllic hotel is just two miles from Volcanoes National Park making it ideal for exploration and relaxing after a long day of hiking.

Cons: There is no restaurant on-site, so guests will need to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner.

This Big Island retreat in the tiny town of Volcano is just two miles from Hawaii's Volcanoes National Park, which is much closer than hotels in the bigger cities of Hilo or Kona.

This Zen-like space gives off a quiet monastery vibe with plenty of privacy and space to spread out. In the case of the White Lotus suite, that includes a massive bathroom with a soaking tub, rainfall shower, and double vanity all enclosed by glass and surrounded by the rainforest.

It's a tranquil place to wash off the day and relax in the forest without worrying about bug bites. Other rooms on the intimate property come with their own perks too, like fireplaces, patios, or kitchenettes. The small resort also has a peaceful meditation garden, koi pond, and outdoor hot tub for all guests.

    Big Cypress Lodge

    TripAdvisor

    Book Big Cypress Lodge

    Category: Mid-Range

    Location: Memphis, Tennessee

    Typical starting/peak prices: $270/$770

    Best for: Families

On-site amenities: Fitness center, spa, on-site entertainment, restaurants

Pros: This hotel offers non-stop activities with bowling, billiards, shooting practice, shopping, and an aquarium, meaning families will find it hard to be bored.

Cons: The hotel is in Memphis, but feels a world away, making it hard to explore the city.

It's easy to forget that Memphis — home of barbecue and blues — is named for one of the ancient capitals of Egypt. The enormous Memphis Pyramid standing tall above the Mississippi River serves to remind you of its namesake, although tucked inside that towering pyramid is a different sort of buried treasure. Specifically, the Big Cypress Lodge, an indoor ode to the great outdoors.

The hotel is meant to resemble a mountain lodge with stone fireplaces, wood beams, and taxidermy, but is far nicer than any glamping site thanks to incredibly plush beds and bathrooms.

The Duck Cabin, for example, has gorgeous marble fixtures, a walk in shower, and an enormous air tub with jets that deliver a full-body massage while you soak. The Exterior King Rooms come with built-in trees, walk in showers, and that same air tub next to a large window that looks out into the bedroom, which in turn overlooks the interior of the Pyramid. Guests have complimentary access to the country's tallest free-standing elevator and the glass observation deck.

    Hall Arts Hotel

Avante Garde suites have beautiful soaking tubs. TripAdvisor

    Book Hall Arts Hotel

    Category: Luxury

    Location: Dallas, Texas

    Typical starting/peak prices: $271/$857

Best for: Couples, honeymooners, arts lovers, Hilton loyalists

On-site amenities: Pool, fitness center, restaurant, bar, business center

Pros: This hospitable, thoughtfully-designed hotel is ideally situated for visitors wanting to explore Dallas' arts district.

Cons: The hotel has somewhat limited food options, so guests may need to venture elsewhere for meals.

The Hall Arts Hotel is one of the lone places to stay in Dallas' booming arts district, bringing its surroundings indoors with carefully curated art displays and posh decor.

Avant Garde suites have an added perk in a stand-alone soaking tub that is situated right in front of the window giving bathers a chance to see the sweeping views of the most iconic buildings in the Dallas skyline while neck-deep in bubbles.

The floor-to-ceiling windows mean this bath isn't for the shy, although it's far enough away from even the most determined prying eyes that bathers needn't worry about their modesty. Add a separate walk-in shower, dual sinks, and Natura Bisse bath products and visitors just might end up spending more time in the bathroom than wrapped up in the Frette linens on the beds.

While it will be hard to step away, the AT&T Performing Arts Center is across the street and museums, theaters, restaurants and parks are just a few steps away.

    Madonna Inn

At Madonna Inn, showers are crafted from solid rock. Madonna Inn

    Book Madonna Inn

    Category: Boutique

    Location: San Luis Obispo, California

    Typical starting/peak prices: $278/$599

Best for: Couples, families, solo travelers

On-site amenities: Restaurant, spa, pool, fitness center, dance floor, tennis, basketball, EV charging stations

Pros: With over 100 unique rooms on a thousand acres of land, restaurants, and activities, there is no place quite like the Madonna Inn.

Cons: The rooms are fun, but due to the hotel's age, they can feel a little rundown and dated.

The Madonna Inn is home to what is arguably the most famous restroom in all of California. The men's restroom below the bar and steakhouse is outfitted with clamshell sinks and home to a waterfall urinal with no hands or flushing required.

Thanks to a little friendly competition between the owners, the women's room isn't too shabby either with fuchsia wallpaper and leather and velvet furnishings.

While the more public restrooms get most of the attention, the rooms in the hotel, founded in 1958, are equally eye-catching and designed around various themes such as caves, forests, rocks, or even an over-the-top honeymoon suites decked out in pink. Expect rock waterfall showers, faux flowers strewn about, and stone vanities.

    The Williamsburg Hotel

The gem-hued tiles color one of the most sophisticated bathrooms on our list. The Williamsburg Hotel

    Book The Williamsburg Hotel

    Category: Boutique

    Location: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

    Starting/peak prices:$400/$950

Best for: Couples, groups of friends

On-site amenities: Excellent restaurant, sceney rooftop bar, seasonal pool, pop-up store and programming

Pros: Guests receive priority access to the popular rooftop water tower bar and pool. The gem-toned tiled bathrooms are gorgeous.

Cons: Entry-level rooms are very small and not soundproofed from other hotel guests. Splurging on a suite is really the only way to avoid both pain points, and indulge in a great bathroom.

The Williamsburg Hotel takes cues from its hip surroundings, with a curated approach to on-site offerings that source local artisan wares, small-batch products, and delicious food and drink.

While other area hotels are overtly modern and luxe, the Williamsburg Hotel has a more intimate, laid-back vibe. Standard rooms are quite small, bordering on cramped, but the Loft Suite is a spacious option that feels like the New York City apartment of your dreams. While pricey in high season, flexible travelers might find some deals on this room, which comes with a gorgeous deep turquoise-tiled bathroom where a standalone tub shares a wet room with an expansive walk in shower. Take a soak, and then rinse off under strong rainfall pressure.

Or, upgrade to the top-tier Skyline Suite where a deep soaking tub stands alongside floor-to-ceiling windows and some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline.

On-site amenities: Pool, spa, fitness center, restaurant, bar

Pros: This is a gorgeous year-round hotel that truly shines in winter when guests can hit the slopes right out the door.

Cons: This hotel is objectively expensive with the most affordable rates found midweek and in the off-season.

Located in the heart of the village of Snowmass, and just seven miles from Aspen, the Viceroy hotel offers guests a chic mountain retreat.

The studio residence guest rooms exude luxury with dark wood and thoughtful, modern details like a small kitchen, electric fireplace, memorable mountain views, and a glorious bathtub in the middle of the space.

The free-standing porcelain tub lets skiers and hikers tend to sore muscles, and for modest types, a retractable shade draws over the clear glass walls to separate it from the bedroom. .

    Typical starting/peak prices: $500/$994

    Best for: Couples, honeymooners

On-site amenities: Three infinity pools, beach with daybeds, fitness center, restaurant, spa, bar

Pros: The design-forward hotel with its dramatic details feels more distinctive than nearby global chain hotels and the three infinity pools and beach access offer quintessential Miami luxury.

Cons: The cost of food and drink is pricey and when added to the room rate may prove prohibitive for many would-be guests.

The Setai is a Miami institution, located just steps from iconic South Beach. The hotel is made up entirely of suites that are loaded with top-notch amenities, including Italian linens on a Duxiana mattress, plush seating and dining areas, and beautiful bathrooms.

Entry-level Art Deco Studio Suites are outfitted with dual vanities, some of the best rainfall showers we've tried, and a stunning black granite bathtub that sits in the center of the bedroom, beneath a flat screen TV and across from the bed.

    FAQ: The best hotel bathrooms

What makes a great hotel bathroom?

The best hotel bathrooms offers a brief escape from the world. That can translate as deep soaking tubs for a leisurely bath, a rainfall shower that feels like getting caught in a summer storm, or thoughtful design details, fixtures, and amenities, and, of course, good lighting.

If you walk into a room and nod at the comfy looking bed, but gasp in awe at the bathroom, you know you're in for a good stay. After all, most of us spend 30 to 60 minutes a day in the bathroom, so it should be a nice place whether at home or on vacation.

Which hotels have the best showers?

The rock showers at the Madonna Inn can make for a memorable experience, while the rainfall shower at the Lotus Garden Cottages and the outdoor shower at the Dreamcatcher bring the tropical environment indoors.

Which hotels have the most indulgent tubs?

For a good long soak in a spectacular tub, the best bets are either The Standard High Line in New York or the Hall Arts Hotel in Dallas. They both offer deep soaking tubs that overlook the city skylines.

For an even more memorable experience, head to either the Setai, the McCloud Mercantile Hotel, or the Roxbury, which all have striking tubs.

How can I make my bathroom look like a hotel?

If you're starting a new bathroom from scratch, think about adding windows for natural light, glass or tile, and investing in a good tub. To start smaller, swap in new fixtures — think gold or brass — or add house plants in matching pots, store shampoo and conditioner in attractive bottles, and accessorize with candles, a bath caddy, and maybe a small rug. These small tricks are easy but can have a major design impact.

What is the nicest bathroom in the world?

From personal experience, I recommend The Muraka, an underwater villa at the Conrad Rangali Island in the Maldives. The entire villa is made of glass and tucked underneath the aquamarine water of the Maldives.

The all-glass bathroom means you can brush your teeth with the fish and shower while hoping for sharks or rays to meander past. It's truly magical.
